150th Anniversary of the Fulton Street Noon Prayer Meeting
In 1857 there were 30,000 men idle on the streets of New York. Drunkenness was rampant, and the nation was divided by slavery. God raised up a praying businessman, Jeremiah Lanphier. On September 23, 1857 he began a noontime prayer meeting on Fulton Street in the Financial District of Manhattan. Out of a city of 1 million people, six people showed up a half hour late.
The group decided to...

Hurricane Humberto Update

Somebody Cares America is in the process of collecting assessments of the needs in Southeast Texas after Hurricane Humberto suddenly developed in the Gulf and hit the coast on Wednesday. Humberto went from a tropical depression to a Category 1 hurricane in only 14 hours.
According to Bryan Pressley from Somebody Cares Southeast Texas, Humberto left "considerable damage" in the Port Arthur, Orange, Nederland, and Bridge City Areas. Over 100,000 homes were without power on Wednesday night, and 70,000 were still without power yesterday. "Quite a few people have been displaced," Bryan said.
"As we gather assessments," says SCA president Doug Stringer, "our first priority will be to empower local churches in the area."
If you would like to contribute to the relief needs in Southeast Texas, you may donate online at www.somebodycares.org and make sure to note "Humberto Relief" in the memo, or you may send a donation to SCA at PO Box 570007, Houston TX 77257. SCA will continue to send updates as we receive them.

Serve Our City
What if . . . God doesn't see us in different churches, but sees our city as one church? What if . . . God's main concern is not for the well but for the broken, oppressed and destitute? What if . . . the fullness of God's work in our city can only be accomplished through the willing participation of obedient leaders who are committed to work and pray together regardless of denomination or race? What if . . . we commit to meet together regularly and ask God how we can unite to reach the people in our city for Him? What if . . . when we meet we also encourage one other, committing to be real and transparent with one another, resisting the temptation to impress each other with our abilities, accomplishments or the size of our ministry? What if . . . We simply love God together, serve one another as one church body and commit to unite to reach out to the people in our city for Him?
THEN . . . (to continue reading go to http://www.serveourcity.com)
I attended the Joe Williams/YWAM street ministry that I have been involved in for several years and ran into Mike Comiskey a friend of mine. He recently stepped down from being the Sr Pastor at Consuming Fire. And created a ministry that serves the city of Houston called "Serve Our City" by working together with integrity, leadership accountability and prayer. Four Miles n Counting
Well got on the bike trails this morning at Terry Hershey Park and made it four miles and I lived to talk about it. I'm hoping to work up to ten miles before the end of next week but this mornings heat just about killed me. It also made me realize how much I missed working out. No makeup or suit or worring about my hair just sweat. The trails total to 12 1/2 miles one way if you start at the Beltway and turn around at HWY 6. I am hoping to make the 25 miles round trip before the end of the year we'll see. Maybe I'll try the evenings but that's all for now.http://www.pct3.hctx.net/PTerry/

Apple n Starbucks! Oh My...MINE, MINE, MINE, MINE

Apple and Starbucks partnership and a price break on the iPhone before the holidays, could it get any better then this.
“There’s even one more incredible part of this,” said Jobs, who said that Apple has been working on this for two years. “I cannot tell you how much pleasure it gives me to announce we’ve got a great partnership with Starbucks today.”

Fasting: The Soul Vacation
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?
